We are a 501(C)3 that relies on Volunteers!

Volunteer with Us!

Do you, or someone you know, have some extra free time? Are you looking for a rewarding way to fill it? Animals in Distress has many volunteer opportunities for you to get involved in rescuing and finding forever homes for kittens and cats in need.  Some can even be done from home in your pajamas!

If you have a few hours a week to spare, are over the age of 21, and would like to join Animals in Distress, please read about the different volunteer opportunities we have available. Have a skill or talent that is not represented below? Let us know what we’re missing and how you can help our cause!  Please complete our volunteer application by clicking the link below.

Volunteer opportunities

Social Media

Do you tell the best stories? Win every “caption this” competition? Is your feed the one that friends tell friends about? Keep our followers engaged with available for adoption and adoption success stories by posting regular updates to our Facebook, Instragram, and more!

Foster Coordinator

Looking to make a huge impact but not able to commit to specific hours and days? Do you love animals but can’t currently bring them into your own home? Look no further! This opportunity would give you so much satisfaction as you would help coordinate our foster program- screen new foster applicants, help educate our foster families, ensure necessities such as food and litter are not running low, etc.

General Cleaning

Our cottage is cleaned daily but more of a “top layer” cleaning. Are you one who likes to clean? Does it give you a sense of accomplishment and control? Well, join our cleaning team of volunteers to do a quarterly deep cleaning of our cottage.

Cat Socialization

Want an easy way to add some happiness to your day? Volunteer some of your evenings and weekends for a few hours in our cat cottage. While here, you will be able to socialize and interact with the cats in our care, as well as minor cleaning of the cages.

Administrative Tasks

Perfect tasks for someone who would prefer to stay home but has some extra time that they can spend helping behind the scenes. Different administrative options are available, and can be discussed, but some examples are application tracker, cat records, etc.

Handyman Tasks

Just like owning a house, there are sometimes some things that can be fixed without needing to call a professional. Is the door hinge creaking? Does the drywall need a small repair and re-paint? Do pictures need to be secured to the wall so that kittens don’t knock them down? We are currently looking for someone who would be willing to help with these types of tasks when/if they occur.

Animal Transport

Love to be on the road? Is running errands your thing? We often need animals transported from one place to another. Some examples include taking a cat to a scheduled appointment with a specialist, transporting to or from a foster home, or picking up an arranged shelter pull where we rescue from a shelter at capacity and take them into our care. If you are flexible in the moment and able to accommodate last minute requests for animal emergencies to a specialty care clinic, that is even a bigger bonus.

Application Processing

Review applications submitted by following our internal screening process to help us ensure safe and loving homes for the animals in our care. This may include calling references, checking veterinarian information, and interviewing applicants over the phone.
